importing product data

Hi
If I change items in my master spreadsheet can i import the sheet in a way where it overwrites existing products rather than creating copies of products that dont have images and mapping.

I think it overwrites rather than adds new     IF    the item has an SKU associated

i now there is a defitive answer somewhere on the forum , but I cannot find it - try searching for 'excel'  and also for 'sku'
