Has the ability to return to the product instead of the cart been taken away in Nop 2.0?
This is already available in 1.9. Uncheck "Display cart after adding product" in admin>configuration>global settings>product tab.

The prestashop feature is cool!
I don't see why you think it requires more space. The existing section as-is could just be updated ajax.
