Replacing Product information instead of deleting the product

I have products on my site that have never been sold and have become obsolete
Will there be any problems if i replace all the product information with a newer product instead of deleting the old product and creating a new product?

I understand there may be issues if there was a sale against a product so i would not follow this process then, i would just unpublish the product.

I just feel it would keep my database small and not grow it unnecessarily over time.

I need to say that i am purely a business owner with limited experience in databases and how they function

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Deleting the product does not actually remove it from the database; there is a Deleted field in the table.  You should not be concerned about the database size.  Just uppublish the product.

If the product has never been sold, is not in a wish list or in a customer's cart, I don't see any issue with changing the details.

If it has been sold, you can copy the product and then update the details, or create a new product.
