I have not seen any hosting recommendations recently. Who has had good luck at what shared hosting companies recently? (And yes I've read the recommended hosting page. I am looking for actual experience).

Thanks - Patrick

I use two:

Mochahost.com for my production site and

softsyshosting.com for dev and test

both work, but overall I like softsyshosting better. The Mochahost control panel is a dog. Softsys has been very quick in responding to trouble tickets and their control interface is very clean.

Why not softsys for your live site ?

I actually just flipped my live site to Softsys.

When I upgraded to 1.6 this weekend, there were problems with the webserver on mocha that prevented me from being able to edit products and categories.

I had a back-up at softsys and when I tried to forward my domain from mocha, nobody could figure out how to do it. Their support is terrible. Fortunately I pointed the nameservers to softsys and it propagated within a day. All of my stuff is on softsys now and I done with Mocha.

Thanks.

FYI.... if that ever happens you can point your domain name to the other host w/o changing nameservers. Just change your domain name A record. That is what the internet uses to see what host your domain should resolve to. Contrary to popular belief your nameservers don't have to be at the same place as your hosting company. You canhave your nameservers at hosting company 1 and your web server/web site someplace completely different. And when you make the switch that way it is almost instantaneous.

If you have a dev/test site and a live site how are you preventing product info from getting indexed twice?

I've been trying to run nop local and I am fighting IIS problem. I am fighting IIS and making zero progress on my store. I think I am going to go with Softsys for a dev site. I want to play with my settings and practice loading most of the products. But obviously I don't want anything on the test site indexed.

Thanks,
Patrick
