Cumulative Upgrade Scripts?

I have version 1.4 installed and want to upgrade to 1.8.  Will I need to run all of the 1.5, 1.6, 1.7, and 1.8 scripts in sequential order or do I need to just install 1.8 .sql files (and all of the web site files, of course).
