Time to create nopCommerce shop

I am a developer with some .NET experience. I've been asked for a quote to develop a fairly small online shop say around 50 categories of products. For a newbie to nopCommerce how much time should I allow for developing the site? I don't need to allow for any design as I can use an existing one.

I am stumped at the moment as I have no idea how much time it would take me.

Thanks for any help you can give.

i would take a look at nopadmin.com it will save a lot lot of time now that he has more functions added to it.  the most important part of setting your site up is having your product organized so you can just copy and paste.

hi simon - are you going to create all the categories and input all the product data and set all the shipping etc?

this could take a long time depending on the descripions, product weights etc

or just setting up a nop shop as is - really, allowing time to upload the software, you could get it online in 30 mins

but that would be if you are familiar with the process - take some time to play with the software, get the feel of it and you will probably be able to determine for yourself how much time you would need to charge for

feel free to ask more ...

Hi Hayden,

Thanks for your message. I am hoping the client will add most of the products so that will reduce the time. I've estimated for a couple of weeks including creating a new theme, installation, configuration and testing with PayPal. Hopefully I should be ok with that but I'm aware that often a lot of time can be taken up testing payment gateways etc. so I've allowed a bit for that.

Thanks

Hi alchemyweb,

I typically allow for about 30-35 hours of work to configure a store completely (without the product load), starting with a base install of NopCommerce, which includes client training.

In case you do decide to build the addition of products into the quote, we've released a lot of functionality to NopAdmin, including a new, lower cost product called NopAdmin Import that will save a NopCommerce integrator such as yourself a lot of time, including the ability to upload and assign unlimited images, assign unlimited categories,  a manufacturer, and even a variant image - all in an Excel upload.  No programming skills are needed.   You can download a free 14 page NopAdmin Import E-Book from our site at www.nopadmin.com to see it's full capabilities.

In fact our full product, NopAdmin,  was initially created to help a non-computer savvy client of ours add products, images, and map categories to their store with a simple drag and drop interface.

If you have questions please feel free to email [email protected].  Good luck with your store configuration!

Shawn

Could anyone tell me where you find a quick setup list and how to go doing it. I have added Catagory and Product but when I got to setup shipping I get lost . I am tring to setup USPS. Do I have to register for credentials and if so once I get those where does that number go? And can you have more than one option for shipping? Back to my original question is there a step by step list to show how to setup the shore?

Hi Giftbarn,

Sounds like you've got the 'heavy lifting' of building your NopCommerce store done.   I've personally not needed to set up a realtime shipping calculator for USPS, however you will need to get a username, password, and will need to get the URL of the shipping API for USPS.  Here is the URL of the landing page for the web tools API's for USPS - http://www.usps.com/webtools/.    It looks like you need to register on their site.  You would set up USPS shipping like so:

Admin - Configuration - shipping - shipping rate computation.
Now select USPS and 'EDIT' on the right.   Now click the configuration tab - here is where you will enter the user name and password and URL to their shipment calculator.

I would also consider the purchase of the NopCommerce user manual as well - at only 19.95 it would very helpful thing to have around.  Even if you are not on 1.90 much of the information still pertains.

Hope this helps -

Shawn

Thanks for the reply Shawn. I have done the registration but the error I get is USPS Error returned: Error Desc: API Authorization failure. RateV3 is not a valid API name for this protocol.

You are receiving the error because you are using the USPS testing URL (http://testing.shippingapis.com/ShippingAPITest.dll) instead of the product URL (http://production.shippingapis.com/ShippingAPI.dll).

Set the URL to production (http://production.shippingapis.com/ShippingAPI.dll) in Administration > Configuration > Shipping > Shipping Rate Computation > USPS (US Postal Service), "Edit" > Configuration (tab). Also, for a new USPS account, you need to submit a request to the USPS Internet Customer Care Center to have your profile updated to production.
