I'm seeing this type of error repeatedly in my log file
The file '/products.228/f((brand/Assos.1049818)(category/Socks.2207)).aspx' does not exist.
The file '/products.26/f((brand/Assos.1049818)(category/.0))/.29934448.aspx' does not exist.
.........
And in the error detail I can see this is logged under customer builtin@search_engine_record.com
Has anybody seen this kind of error in the log file or does anybody know why this is happening?

This is quite common. Some bots are trying to visit your pages, either because you have these pages earlier, or that they are trying to do something funny.
If you see the log reads something like the requests are being blocked because they can cause damage to the system, it means it's more likely bots are trying to break your site by mean of SQL injection or similar tricks.
