Menu items show incorrectly as picture above. What am i doing wrong?

You don't have appropriate locale resources

Thank you for the reply. What does that actually mean, and how do I fix it?

Resources are the language translations, you just need to edit or add these, you can even change the english ones, my 'Wish List' is now a 'Lightbox' for digital assets.

Try, Administration > Configuration > Location > Languages

Drilldown on the language and look for the Strings:

Add or edit the Resource = Content.AboutUs add the translation
Add or edit the Resource = Forum.Forums add the translations
