Unwanted Customers Signing up for Registered Users

I am having an issue with customers signing up for registered users on my website that are fake.  It is like there is a hacker in my sight but I am not sure.  Or maybe it is an SQL injection.  Is there some sort of security feature that I need to turn on that maybe I have not?  

Any help would be great.

You could try turning on Captcha (although I don't recall if it's only for Login, or also for Register)

Admin > Settings > General ... > Security tab

You can also enable email validation
