sharing the common assemblies between multiple sites.

having all the referenced assemblies in every bin directory of everysite requires alot of attention when updating web sites.

putting all the common references in a common shared bin directory on the server would be the way to go. would this cause and problems in the application ?

There's no a common shared bin directory. Look at GAC (Global assembly cache)
