Subcategories show on nav bar?

I've tried taking a look myself, but failed thusfar.
I'm trying to get the subcategories to display on the left hand navbar underneath its respective category.

Would there be a simple few lines of code to add this functionality, or would this need to be a feature request?

Modules\Navigation\CategoryNavigation.ascx user control displays categories on nav bar but subcategories are not shown now. It'll be modified in the next release!
