Product alerts for customer?

Is there a way to implement product alerts when products become available, price changes, etc?

All we do is send everyone a newsletter every week letting customers know about new products and offers.

Sample, I`m a visitor of web store and want buy x product, but currently this specific product is not available (out of stock) and i want get information when it become, like notify when available popup with some fields

If you use v1.9 then use the backorder setting in product info then the customer can be emailed.

Pre-order support will alert the user when a product becomes available. This feature may open the avenues and make it easy to implement other product alerts.
