slow loading page

i have a problem with our site. the pages load slow. very slow as a matter of fact. i have read some comments regarding the cronjob or keeping it alive.. i already used that, yet, still slow. anyone who could help me? looking for a positive response.

* Does it happen on every load or only on first?
* Some pages or all?
* Nop version, modified?

ohhh. sorry for the lack of information. it's my first post and i didnt realize i have to include such thingys. anyhow, I am using version 1.9 and it happen at all pages.
