Import products from Excel

Hi,
I searched the forums but could not find an answer to my problem.

When I try to import an Excel 2003 .xls file via the Admin area I see this message:-

"Can not open the package. Package is an OLE compound document. If this is an encrypted package, please supply the password"

The file contains 1 test record, is not password protected and contains minimal data. Version 2.30 being used. Any ideas how I get around this ?

Create and export a product and use the Excell file as a template for imports

I got that error when I saved as xls.  When I saved it as xlsx (XL 2007 version) it worked

Same here with .xls - worked perfectly with .xlsx - good work!
