Handling charges

Hi all,

I have added a new record to product variant called handling charges. This charge is different from each product.

My requirement is, i want to add this total charge to shopping cart.

If you can guide me that is great.

Product variants already have a field "Additional shipping charge:"

Is there a way to add a handling charge to orders? If so, is there also a way to add that handling charge based on customer role?
Additional shipping charges per variant are not the same as an order handling charge sine the additional fee per variant would be added to each variant in an order rather than a fixed fee added to the cost of shipping for an entire order.

This is probably not the same as the original poster's question, but since the title is "Handling Charges" I thought this would be the most relevant place to post my question.
