site starts very slow in the development machine

I'm developing a site based on nopcommerce 1.9, it was developed by previous developer.

the site works fine in production. however, on DEV pc, when I start to debug it from visual studio, it launches the site very slowly. it takes 5-10 minutes to see the site. The dev machine is 16GB, dual core 2.2GHZ, win7 pro.

the site itself is based on v1.9, added several tables to entity.

anyone seen this before? anysuggestions? many shipping/payment projects are not used. if I remove them, will it be faster?
