I would like to secure the forum (boards) so that no one can view the forums unless they are in the "forum moderators" role. I do not want any other role group to access the forums. I believe this should be simple, but cannot find where in the code to change permissions. I am using version 2.9.

thank you in advance.

Hi mig,

I have a simple suggestion that does not require changing any code.

1. Create a category or manufacturer category called 'myForums'.
Insert a link or button to the Forums (/boards) on the page itself.

2. Subject this new 'myForums' category to ACL - check the Forum Moderators box.

3. Remove all your current links to the forum area that appear on your site.

Now when a someone visits your site they will not see the category 'myForums' nor find a link to them, unless they are a Forum Moderator.

Another alternative would be to create a topic page with a password that has a link or button to the forums. Only share the password with forum moderators.

This workaround should be fine until you find a way to secure the forums.

John, That is a nice idea, but it doesn't secure the forum. Thanks for the reply.
