setting up email in mail settings tab

I have tried several email addresses and many ports, And everytime I try to send a test email I get a test mail failure message. Is this made for pop mail or something else, what can i do?

This is made for SMTP protocol

There's tons of ways to set up email, so there's no right answer for everything...

In my case, my emails were failing until I cleared the "Use Default Credentials" checkbox.
