PayPal IPN Instant Payment Notification not working

Hi:

The PayPal IPN Instant Payment Notifications are not working with our site.  We're using the PayPalDirect payment method.  If I manually navigate to our listener URL it responds with a blank page, not an error, and PayPal receives back HTTP 200 success responses.  However, the nopC System Log generates an error and the payments are not updated.  We're on ver. 2.8.

Here's what happened to me when I set up. Maybe it will spark some thoughts for you.

In our case this issue turned out to be an http vs. https issue when entering the Notification URL in our PayPal profile, i.e. we had to use https://www.yourStore.com/Plugins/PaymentPayPalDirect/IPNHandler.
