PayPal Standard not offering credit card payments

I understand that by using PayPal Standard payment method I should be able to pay by either PayPal account OR by credit card. However, when I'm redirected to the PayPal site I can only pay by PayPal account, there is no option to pay by credit card.

Can someone confirm my assumption?

P.S. My seller account has not yet been verified, so could this be the reason the option is unavailable? Also, I'm using very small payment transactions i.e. 0.01 GBP to test so could this affect it?

Check your paypal account setup (this maybe because you don't have a business account yet).  For a business account you would go to paypal.com

Choose Profile At the Top

Other Options -> Website Payment Preferences

Look for "PayPal Account Optional"
Choose "On"

Check to see if you have those settings, and how they are configured.

I have  a premier account not a business account. I thought you only need a premier account to accept credit card payments. Is this not the case? However the account status is "unverfiied". Also, I can't see the settings you refer to on the Web Payment Preferences page (I guess because it's not a business account?).

Solved. It's a new PayPal account which I did not activate, i.e. didn't click the link in the email received from PayPal.

So totally my fault, but not entirely obvious as you can use the PayPal account otherwise!

I am having this same problem now on 2.65.  When purchasing an item with a very small price ($0.05) with a friends credit card, I only have Paypal Standard activated and when the site redirects me to paypal it does not give me an option to use credit cards only payal.  If anyone can help that would be great.
