HTTPS everywhere - as a SEO ranking signal

6 years ago
According to the article http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2014/08/https-as-ranking-signal.html by google, does these mean we can be benefited in point of SEO  if we enable SSL every pages of nopcommerce site?
What is the trade off between performance and SEO if we enable SSL everwhere?

FYI: we can enable SSL for the entire nopcommerce site by setting up
SecuritySettings.ForceSslForAllPages = true

To do that go to

Admin --> Configuration --> Settings ---> All Settings (Advanced)

Click the funnel type icon next to 'Setting Name' column. Using that filter, filter for "SecuritySettings.ForceSslForAllPages" and update the setting.

Thanks

There are plenty of articles out there which suggest google will rank you better with SSL enabled due to being a more secured resource. But obviously there would be a lot of other factors affecting your rank.

The tradeoff is the SSL connection cost on each page request which is on average a 0.4s hit. This SSL cost depends on the speed of your certificate authority. If you already have a certificate, use a profiling tool to check the SSL connection time for the request e.g. Chrome Inspector

I would like to share my experience with HTTPS everywhere

Two month ago I checked 'Force SSL for all site pages' to enable HTTPS everywhere that hurt performance by slowing down 1 sec average on whole site. SEO ranking also goes down by quarter . I noticed in google analytics, impression on organic search ( acquisition -> channels) was going down. I go back uncheck 'Force SSL for all site pages one and half month later, performance and SEO ranking become better.

So, HTTPS everywhere was not worthy for me.

Also if memory serves I believe it also means that you can not qualify for the google trusted store qualification either.   pretty big conundrum for them.

Right but recently google trust store update their system to make badge visible on https pages. Still HTTPS everywhere is not worthy regarding overall SEO and  performance consideration
