I have the same question.  Need to only allow guest checkout. Is that an option?

Pretty much the main reason for getting customers to register is so that they will have access to their previous orders and you will have their information easily accessible if they call or email for customer service...
If Guest checkout is enabled, then it is not necessary for anyone to register...but they can if they want to..and why would you care? If you plan to enable your forums or reward points system, etc..or if you want them to be able to access their previous orders or downloadable products, then you need to allow folks to register as a customer.

If you really want nobody to ever be able to register, then you could simply remove the Register link from your \views\common\headerlinks.cshtml and modify your \views\customer\login.cshtml by commenting out the register block within it...
