How to reomve the "compare list" button on all pages

I looked around the forum and could not find this answer....

Does anyone know how to remove the "Compare List" button from all pages? We don not want to use this feature at all...

configuration-->global settings  other tab

untick 'enable compare products'

In administration this is now in Configuration -> Settings -> Catalog Settings -> Compare Products tab

And then un-tick 'Compare Products' enabled.
