Hi

I've been following NOP Commerce for a number of years as I am a Microsoft developer.  However we use Magento - and the features / community support seem to be more mature than NOP Commerce.  Saying that , Magento is a horrible monster to develop with.

Thoughts on this?  Here is a good set of commercial extensions for Magento - I use most of them on my site - but there doesn't seem to be this sort of Level of commercial extension with Nop Commerce https://mirasvit.com/magento-extensions.html

Kind Regards
Martin

Troll or Flame - still, I disagree with your statement.

Those plugins are quite expensive and from a quick glance at them Nop Commerce does most of what they give you already.

Personal Home Page (PHP) and plugins um, eg. https://magento.com/security/vulnerabilities/sql-injection-vulnerability

Hope you've patched your store regarding the "create users when registration is turned off" and "escalate privileges" vulnerability released last month - and, there is another unpatched one floating about but I'm not linking to it here.

Please check the list of vulnerabilities in Windows Server and Nop Commerce over the last 5 years and you will have a shock, I love linux but I stopped pretending linux was "more" secure years ago.

also, most nop commerce developers are actually "professional" developers with many years experience in the ecommerce field. Most PHP plugins come from students (shoot me) - and they are well over priced for what they are. I have made only 2 (not available publicly) Magento plugins so I don't have full experience of developing with magento, and I suppose it all depends on one's opinion of "professional".

my suggestion to Magento store owners is to upgrade to nopCommerce ;-)

- specifically what feature are you looking for in nopCommerce that a plugin could give? or are you suggesting that we just should have more plugins, possibly the reason nopCommerce has less plugins than magento is that they are centrally managed, and clone plugins are discouraged, or it could be the sheer volume of developers on the Magento platform?

Hey , I have always genuinely want to use Nop Commerce - but Magento has served us well - and I hate php ( it's like going back to the ASP days ) . I'm not here to promote anything - I've spent tens of thousands of dollars on upgrading magento and I've just about had enough.

I guess the things that really add value for Magento are

1) The ultimate search plugin - which gives you auto complete and popup very fast searching based on sphinx , in the popup it shows lists of categories , products ( with images ) and articles ; highly configurable.

2) Advanced SEO plugin , allowing you have products in multiple categories but choose one as the URL ( e.g. www.mystore.com/category/product/ ) - which is more effective than canonical URL's & has configurable robots meta with regex matching patterns - very powerful.

3) Themes in general - with Nopcommerce don't seem to be quite "there" - take for example http://magento1.emthemes.com/everything/index.php/?___store=marketdeal_eng  or all of those themes here http://preview.themeforest.net/item/magento-21-themes-magento-19-all-40-creative-designs-multipurpose-responsive-everything/full_screen_preview/12243332 - they seem a lot more "polished"  with menu performance , layouts & design. Nop Commerce themes are "sort of in the right direction"  - but the feel of them is just not the same.

I'm just trying to communicate my frustration - I'm not wanting to start an argument with people already sold on Nop commerce.  What would be really great is if you said - yeah , hey it needs a few improvements - lets do it. :-)

thanks for replying, I totally agree with your statements and thanks for the idea about the feature in our existing Redirect Plugin that we don't advertise properly, it does that feature already but the plugin has lots of features so it's buried in there - probably more articles about the plugins are needed, more plugin awareness? I'm sure those other features you requested are covered already?

yeh cool sorry, but I'm aware that the nopcommerce community is open for that, just post in the forum what you want and you will be surprised you're request may find it's way into the source ;-) also you must have not seen https://www.nop-templates.com/ - the magento themes on those links you sent where of a lower quality than these, and they are just one example of who I do endorse, there support is also awesome.

maybe nopcommerce needs a showcase set up, maybe we should shout out about our plugins more?

Thanks - yes , well maybe I will have a good look at it. I would say on a par with the everything theme ( although the price of the everything theme is $100 for 40+ designs )

I think I will download & install & do a proper comparison of the features I need.

What sort of resources does Nopcommerce need?  We need a dedicated server to run Magento ( 10,000 hits a day ) . I also notice someone has MongoDB support - that should reduce the load significantly? ( for things like custom product attributes ) .

When are you planning this update? In I guess summer of 2017 somewhere Nopcommerce 4.0 comes out and it will run on ASP.NET CORE which will also run on Linux. I guess the resources should be a lot smaller then considering Linux is a lighter system.

About the performance topic C# is a lot faster then php in code execution about(x19 times faster check https://benchmarksgame.alioth.debian.org/u64q/performance.php?test=nbody) however when you would compare the whole ASP.NET frame work with PHP it runs as fast as php or bit slower. With ASP.NET CORE this whole thing is gone because you won't load in the whole framework but only what the program needs.

Please also have a look at this comparison table - https://www.g2crowd.com/compare/nopcommerce-vs-magento-community-edition
