I was just browsing my website's statistics (awstats) and at the very bottom is the section that shows "404 Page Not Found" errors.  The number of hits seemed a bit high so I looked at the pages that were trying to be accessed.

Here's a partial list:

/phpMyAdmin/scripts/setup.php 6
/phpmyadmin/scripts/setup.php 6
/php-my-admin/scripts/setup.php 4
/phpMyAdmin-2.6.2-rc1/main.php 4
/phpMyAdmin-2.6.3/scripts/setup.php 4
/phpMyAdmin-2.6.2-rc1/scripts/setup.php 4
/websql/scripts/setup.php 4
/privacy-policy.truste.com/verified-seal/www.firstclasscondoms.com/green/h.png 4
/mysqladmin/scripts/setup.php 4
/phpMyAdmin-2.6.3/main.php 4
/mysql/main.php 3
/phpmyadmin2/main.php 3
/privacy-policy.truste.com/click-to-verify/www.firstclasscondoms.com 3
/google7d4892da3815f87c.html 3
/phpmyadmin/main.php 3
/cpadmindb/config/config.inc.php 2
/:81/phpmyadmin/config/config.inc.php 2
/phpMyAdmin-2.6.0-rc3/main.php 2
/phpmanager/scripts/setup.php 2
/phpMyAdmin-2.6.0-beta2/main.php 2
/phpMyAdmin-2.7.0-beta1/scripts/setup.php 2
/phpMyAdmin-2.5.5-rc1/main.php 2
/phpMyAdmin-2.5.6-rc1/scripts/setup.php 2
/phpMyAdmin-2.6.4-pl3/scripts/setup.php 2
/phpmyadmin1/scripts/setup.php 2
/phpMyAdmin-2.6.3-rc1/main.php 2
/mysqladmin/main.php 2
/mysql/config/config.inc.php 2
/myadmin/config/config.inc.php 2
/dbadmin/main.php

...

Obviously none of these files and directories even exist, so something is "shooting in the dark" so to speak when they visit my site.  Is this the sign of a hacker or a some sort of evil bot trying to gain access?  Could they potentially determine the correct (administration) directory and cause havoc on my site?

It would seem that is exactly what they are trying to do.
