Regarding HTML. You can find all HTML markup in aspx (pages) and ascx (controls) files. You can find more info about it here

You will not find HTML codes to edit and alter the products display, specs, images and more, ofcourse it is there.
For example, to display the products you may have to choose the template in admin, and modify the template in the templates folder. And that template is build on asp.net controls.

for CSS, you can find in App_Theme and corresponding folder darkorange, nopclassic.

nopcommerce is build on asp.net and c#, to fully customize you should know these languages.
