Upgrading - Does info save?

When we upgrade to a newer version, we have to uninstall the old version and install the new version, correct?

So do we (or can we) save our previous products, info, and themes?  Or do we start from scratch?

I am currently running 1.5 and would be happy to upgrading if I knew everything would be okay.

Actually, you should be able to upgrade.

The most important thing is the database, and they have published "upgrade" scripts from 1.4 to 1.8 I believe. But you need to know.

So run the different "upgrade" scripts one-by-one from v. 1.5 and upwards.

Of course you will have difficulties if you have don ANY customization, but that's life :).

But it is not just a "1-1" upgrade. Lots of configuration and stuff to get settings correct.

But to answer your question - yes your data will be safe. Do a local upgrade and test
