What am I missing?

I have installed 1.6 and apears to have completed successfully.  When I go to the domain I get the home page.  Now what?  I have attempted to use a could of userid and password combinations but nothing has worked.  How do I get to the backend?  What next?  What am I missing?  Thanks.
