How to remove sections from user view such as main menu items, wishlists etc?

Greetings,

I am dealing with 1.6 hosted on GoDaddy.ca.
I would like to know if and how we can remove stuff to simplify the GUI?
For people like me who have a basic offering (1 product), it is important to strip off and simplify the ui as much as possible.

For example, having only one category and 1 product and a few variant, I don't want a wishlist, search and new products.

Is it possible to remove stuff from the ui and how?

I found that I could use the Configuration->All Settings -> Common.EnableWishlist by looking at the page source.
How about main menu items?

once you are done, you can copy the relevant files back to the server


if you are doing this, you might prefer to upgrade to v1.8 rather than v1.6 supplied by godaddy
