Suddenly cannot change themes

V 1.9 installed and running well for a week. Created theme by copying darkOrange to a new name and modifying css, etc.
Suddenly I can't change themes. Seems to be stuck on the one I made even though I change the theme in the admin panel. I moved my theme out of the directory and the system is now on darkOrange and won't move off of that. Other themes show in the admin panel and I select, but the change does not happen. Put my theme back in the theme directory and system still stuck on darkOrange.

I restarted the website, but still the same issue.

Any guidance is appreciated.

UPDATE: And 10 minutes later it just as suddenly started working fine again. Any ideas why?
