Add Qty to the Category and search pages

I spent a few hours trying to find out how to do this where to find the right pages myself but have come up with nothing.

I am currently selling items that the qty is very important but i would like to make it less clicks to shop as descriptions are not something really needed.

How can I add the qty on stock and a drop down menu (not a input field) for people to select how many on the category and search pages next to the add to cart button using Products in lines 1 option for both.

Can I also stop it from bringing me to the cart every time I add an item to it?

I use 1.90

Also, to stop the cart from displaying after clicking the add to cart button,

in admin    configuration --> global settings -->  ' products ' tab

I did see that post but it also limited what I need. Decent pictures are required and I like the the look of the original Products in lines 1. If I could just add the "Availability: # in stock" above the price and say a qty input (drop down would be best) on the same line as the price at least on the category pages it would be perfect.
