gift card code not working

Our gift card codes aren't working at all. On checkout we put in the gift card code that was sent to the user and it says "The coupon code you entered couldn't be applied to your order"

We can make the purchase, the gift recipient gets the email with the code in it. We go in as the customer to the site and try to make a purchase and the code basically just does not work.

nevermind, i was able to get it working by setting the gift card actions in the global properties
