Units and custom fields

I have two questions:

1) There are products that are not per item but per foot. How can I set that up?
I have added a new measurement as "Foot" in Admin > Configuration > Measure but not sure assign it to product(s).


2) and I need a text box on detail page for a some items. How can I create it?
