Online Book Store Setup

Greetings,
I do a website for a local museum and we are looking at setting up an online book store.
I am working on adding all the books to a subdirectory on my laptop and then FTP the directoryto the hosting server that hosts our site.
Can someone tell me if this would be the correct way to start the bookstore and the software that I would need to accomplish this task.

I take it that you are wanting to use nopcommerce as your ecommerce software to sell your books ?

the process you describe would not be suitable, you need to get nopcommerce up and running then add your books as products to sell - get started by reading this post :
