Unable to send email using google apps

Hi all.

I know that this is going to be something silly but for the life of me I can't get this to work.  

I am using Nop 1.9 on a medium trust web server and no matter what I do I cannot get it to send any mails of any kind not even the test mail.  The error message I always get is a rather helpful: "Failure sending mail."  I have turned debug = True in web.config in the hope of a more helpful message but nothing, just the same message.  

I have searched through all the forum posts here and have tried all potential resolutions and have changed every setting possible but none work.  

Does anyone have any ideas?  Please!  (Yes this is me now begging...)

Hi,

Found that my host had blocked access to all other mail servers other than theirs to prevent spam getting them black listed...  

Knew it would be something silly!  :-(
