I'm using Azure and everything is within your control there is no waiting or migration hassles (unless you create them yourself). SQL Azure is fast and compliments the Azure CDN that delivers my static content nicely. Remote desktop access, ftp, and http publishing/access makes changes a breeze. The management portal is easy and intuitive to use and best of all if I need to scale up or down I can with just 1 click.

You imply you scale with a click easy to do on Azure but how do you run nop across multiple instances or by scaling do you mean up the server size? I suspect its the server size you mean which then means you are limited by the Large Size (4 cores 7GB) but in my experience of both Azure and AWS the speed you actually pull from the machines is nothing like you'd expect I'd be interested to hear your experience?

Yes you can scale the size of the vm however you can also scale out to more servers. Its quite simple if you store your images in the db and use sql azure you can just start more role instances as needed.

I have set up on Arvixe Business Class Pro and am not happy.

One week ago I switched my domain from the old site to Arvixe.  The email accounts got killed with SPAM.  Turns out Business Class Pro does not provide SPAM filtering on the server.  I was told by support to keep my email hidden to avoid SPAM.  Later support sugested I open a Unix account and point my email to it while pointing my website to the Business Class Server.  I switch my domain back to the original site.

I have been unable to get classic ASP with connection to databases working.  The support people throw ideas out and ask me to try different things.  It is obvious they don't know and are quessing.  I am two week overdue for the switch to Arvixe.

I can not get an answer on their support phone or with chat.

Ramon, I've escalated this for you - let me know at [email protected] if there's anything else I can do.

Arvixe is great for Linux, but for .net, you may find it on Microsoft site. I use hostforlife.eu now. Great support, you may try them

If you only need one site, and will only ever need one site, try discountasp.net. Good guys, and it's pretty easy to set up and use, and not too expensive.

However, I am switching to Azure because I don't only need one site, and discountasp has just decided that they are not going to support multiple sites. Whatever, their choice, they are very good at single sites, so you can't really argue.

Woww... You're using Azure? I have also tried them, fast deploying my site, but the price is not great, make me want to cry at the end of month. hehee.... I switch to hostforlife.eu

Hi Ramon,

IndigoTea escalated your ticket to us and we were able to provide you with the proper database connection path. We are sorry the support that you received we have talked with the techs you spoke with to make sure they research/confirm before they act. We have the basic information listed here, but because each server is setup a little bit different in terms of drive letters it may not always be the same.

https://support.arvixe.com/index.php?/Knowledgebase/Article/View/75/11/how-to-connect-to-a-ms-access-database-from-an-asp-script

The basic path for anyone that would like to know is:

"DBQ=[DriveLetter]:\HostingSpaces\<username>\path\to\file.mdb;DefaultDir=;UID=;PWD=;"

If you do run into anymore issues with the Database please let us know.

As for the ASP SPAM filtering we do have server side filtering but there is no custom client configuration. If client side configuration is something you have to have we do offer Linux plans at a heavily discounted price (PersonalClass would be fine to use) and we can take care of all the configuration for you.

We are very sorry you were not able to reach us through live chat or Phone. We are here 24/7 with our services always on and there was no downtime in either of the systems yesterday. We do monitor our forum very closely

http://forum.arvixe.com/smf/

So if you are unable to reach Arvixe by any channel (chat, phone, e-mail) you can always post there and we will make sure we help you right away.

Again we are sorry for the issues you encountered and wanted to let you know that we are here for any issues you may have.

Regards,

Arvixe did come up with the correct recommendation for the connection string.  I am rocking and rolling with my migration, finally.

I suppose many help desk are like this.  They just through their best guess and move on.  When I am halted in my work for days because I need a real answer then I get frustrated.

It is nice that Arvixe has telphone, Chat, and help desk support (submit a ticket).

In my expereince this past week:

1. I never get through on the phone.
2. Chat sometimes takes up to 20 minutes to answer, I usually quit waiting before that long.
3. Submit a ticket and wait is my only recourse.  But due to the non interactive style of communciation it can take days to resolve anything.

I chose Arvixe for:
1. Its reputation in support.  My previous provider had good support but could not resolve some ongoing issue which put me in an embarrassing position with my customers
2. It reputation for uptime and reliability.  I can not comment on this yet but I am now nervous based on some comments in this blog.
3. Its ability to migrate to more powerful servers.  My previous supplier topped out at a basic level package which cost me a major deal where I needed additional capacity.  Arvixe did migrate me from personal plan to business plan but wouldn't migrate email accounts.  This can be a big disruption and I am nervous about future migrations.
4. I made an assumption that with all the capabilities of Arvixe over other suppliers they had adequate email spam controls.  They do not offer these on Windows based servers.

Stay away from Winhost. I have 4 sites hosted there and have made the mistake of staying too long. Now I'm stuck. I'm currently in the process of migrating my code to AWS but it'll take a while longer.

Winhost has been the target of attacks twice in the last year causing my sites to go down for an entire day (not minutes or hours of downtime... an entire day!). Imagine your site down for AN ENTIRE DAY DURING THE BUSINESS WEEK.

If you that doesn't bother you then go ahead and choose winhost. But if uptime is important then my advice is to keep looking. I recommend taking control and go with AWS or Azure. It's a little more effort upfront but the tools are getting so much easier to use.

@plep
I too hung on way too long with Arvixe before finally moving my last site hosted there a few months ago. I moved all my sites to SmarterAsp.Net.  I migrated the last site in only a few hours (It took longer for the DNS change to propagate :)   The support is good, the control panel is good, you can directly access the SQL server from SSMS, they'll issue an SSL for $29/year and install it for you for free,  etc.,  etc.
