Avoid Arvixe for Hosting

For anyone looking for hosting I would advise you to avoid Arvixe like the plague.  In the most recent event, my website “magically” went down due to an app pool issue -- after 2 hours in a live chat my problem gets elevated to a senior tech.

In the mean time I can’t wait 24 hours to get my webiste back up because I have customers, so I take a good 20 min and throw together an IIS server on my personal comp and do some port configuration, then forward the Arvixe DNS to point to my home IP address.

20 min later I get an e-mail telling me that my problem is resolved and I should clear my browser cache because; that’s right, the senior (incompetent) tech checked my website and it’s working.. on MY server but he didn’t even take the time to check his.

As of this morning it turns out that Arvixe applied a windows update on their server that messed up many peoples hosting accounts.  After I demanded a refund the person on the line preceded to make me wrong asking me “what would you have done differently” and suggesting a refund was ridiculous for this downtime/service issues.

I suggest Andrei might want to remove them as an affiliate because I’d hate to see the community suffer the same problems, lack of support and lack of professionalism from this company.

ps.  I’m using their “Business Class Hosting”

You were speaking to me on the phone. Some questions for you -

1) Did you not get a free month out of this?
2) Are all hosts out there perfect?
3) Is all technology perfect?

We clearly outlined the cause of this. One server, out of 400+, had an issue with Windows updates improperly applying a .NET 4.0 update. We identified this fact within a few hours ***overnight*** and resolved it early morning the following day.

Something went wrong due to a problem with the .NET upgrade. We can't control that but we can fix it. So we fixed it. We gave you a free month for a few hours of inconvenience.

Lastly, I'd like to ask, aren't you still using us for hosting?

There is always something else to blame, even a simple apology and "We're constantly working to improve our systems" would have been acceptable.

Look, you're supposed to be a professional hosting company that's being recommended by the best open source shopping cart (in my opinion). We have an awesome community of very talented people, programmers and designers.

I've never run into a hosting company that takes 6 days for SSL installations, live chat that takes 20 min between responses and I've defined never ever had a problem ticket solved because the tech was actually looking at my personal server located at my house not the actual server in question.

To answer your question yes I did get that month refunded to me and yes I did move my site to another company on a dedicated server.

I don't know about Arvixe Hosting, but 5 stars for SoftSysHosting. As a windows developer, I couldn't be happier - I can use SQL Management Studio, Remote IIS Manager, and do pretty much everything I need to do with *native* tools on a shared host. I'll probably switching all my sites to them over the next year.

Hi arvand,
i suggest you apply any updates on one "staging" server before apply to all server.
this is how we deploy new changes(which includes service pack from Microsoft and our own website changes):

1. deploy the changes to a staging server
2. perform a "shake down" test, using an auto test tools to test our web app(in your case, you can create a simple web app with some feature like login, logout, add/delete/update/retrieve data from DB)
3. if hit error, check and troubleshoot
4. if no error, proceed to apply updates to all your servers.

this will reduce the incident, not 100% but at least will help.

Arvixe is the worst hosting company.

Price to value seems great, till you start running into problems.

The customer service is arrogant, including the QA managers, there is no sense of resolution. I spent so much time, trying to resolve basic MVC install packages missing.

SmarterASP.net, gearhost or phi9 is way better!!!

Stay away from Arvixe they are the worst, horrible company ever!!!

I am definitely switching away from Arvixe.....
My site has been down two times that I know of and who knows how many times I didn't know about.
It's cheap and if you aren't running ecommerce it might be ok but that's it.
