We can consider to switch admin area with a more comprehensive framework like AngularJS or React. There are plenty of extensions for these libraries.

i'd just maintain the old grid and switch to core. the problem you face now might just be happening again with other products so it's probably not worth the work to switch. stay with what you know and works tbh.

Agree with you, we should talk with Kendoui team, allow nop use grid componet with the latstest version, even it is not open source, but this way could let more people know kendoui, then the people will consider to buy a license after some experiences in using nop.

Did you consider Syncfusion's essential Studio for ASP.NET MVC with an Open Source licence?

◦You have been working on your open source project for a minimum of 3 months.

◦You have an updated news section on your site.
◦You release updated builds on a regular basis.
• Please provide us with details about you and your project at our Contact Sales form. We will review your application and get back to you via email.
Hi Benoît,

Thanks a lot. The product looks interesting. But where have you found open-source license? Could you please share the link?

Note that it is different than the Community Licence. The Open Source licence seems more appropriate for nopCommerce, but they don't publish much détails. You need to send them the information above first.

If you read the licence here  https://www.syncfusion.com/products/communitylicense you see:

Can the products be used to build commercial applications?
Yes

Grid example: http://mvc.syncfusion.com/demos/web/grid/default

PS: there are other js framework like DOJO or AngularJS based

Any news on the grid situation?

I agree with keremdemirer switch to angular and use angular ui components mixed with angular-material for design and layout: https://material.angularjs.org/

I'm using this in my daily work and it rocks.

Hi guys,
I was wondering if there are any updates on this issue. It seems nopcommerce is still using Kendo UI, even though I am not sure which version. Also, do any plans for the future exist ?

Thanks,

Syncfusion has community  license.

WHAT IS THE COMMUNITY LICENSE?
The Community License provides free access to all the Syncfusion products for individual developers and small businesses.

It includes grid and lot's other components

Not sure if license is valid in open source project.

EDIT:
You can use it in Open source projects.

Can the Community License be used for open source projects?

The Community License can be used in open source projects, but we require that you first contact us to register.

I'm not sure that its license is acceptable for nopCommerce. Anyway, thanks a lot for suggestion. I've just sent them a request to contact us

Andrei,
The Multi-select, the combobox's, DatePickers, etc. are all still free with Kendo. Would you just port the grid?

Thx

I've got the following reply from syncfusion

Good Evening,
We offer the community license to small businesses (under 1 million USD in revenue and with 5 or less developers)  and individuals licenses to help provide access for those who are just starting out.
In order to allow Syncfusion to be used in an open-source project we would need to put a Master License Agreement (MLA) in place. The Master License Agreement would have certain limitations.
These limitations include, but are not limited to:
1.      There would be a requirement that you make it clear, in a license, to anyone obtaining your code, that they need to independently obtain dependencies (our product) from us whether under a community, commercial or other license.
2.     You will not be able to distribute our binaries as part of the open source project.
3.    The project can only be licensed under MIT, Apache, or BSD. The project could not be licensed under GPL or similar licenses.
A full list of limitations will be set forth in the Master License Agreement. If this works for you and your team, please let me know and I will start drafting the Agreement.
Best Regards,

Jaclyn Vidusic
In-House Counsel

So it's clear that we cannot use them. Its license is unacceptable for us
